About the Core
In 2012, the Bioimaging Core was established as a two-sited core with platforms in Ghent and Leuven. The Bioimaging Core at Ghent University evolved from an existing service unit of the VIB Inflammation Research Center to a VIB wide facility. Light and electron microscopy services and image analysis have been integrated into one unit and are also accessible beyond the institute, for academics and industry. The core is an expertise unit for consultancy on complete workflows. We have a mixed working model with provision of training and renting out instrument time for light microscopy applications, and full-service for EM and specialised LM projects.
Since its inception, the portfolio of BIC has been enriched to be able to perform: correlated light and electron microscopy (CLEM), volume LM and EM, super-resolution microscopy, large sample imaging, and a strong focus has been put on image analysis.
